Doctors at the Komfo Anokye Teaching Hospital (KATH) laid down their tools today, March 13, due to an accommodation challenge.
According to a statement signed by the association’s Chairman, Dr Michael Leat, the decision to strike was made after doctors were given letters directing them to leave their current residence without any relocation.
Following an emergency meeting to see the way forward of the situation, the doctors agreed to embark on a strike.
“The persistent threat to cut the electricity and water supply to the homes of doctors in order to forcefully push them out is inhumane and not acceptable in any sense. We are hereby notifying management of our collective decision to be absent from work in the Komfo Anokye Teaching Hospital from Wednesday 13.03.24 at 0600HRS till this matter is completely resolved”, portion of the release read.
The strike, endorsed by the Ghana Medical Association, will only affect new admissions as all doctors have agreed to adhere to the Association’s directive.
