The Chief Executive Officer of Komfo Anokye Teaching Hospital, Dr. Paa Kwesi Baidoo, has outlined significant investments in equipment, infrastructure and human resource development aimed at strengthening specialist healthcare delivery at the facility.
Speaking at the hospital’s 2025 End-of-Year Performance Review Conference in Kumasi, Dr. Baidoo disclosed that over GH¢10 million was spent on procuring critical medical equipment through internally generated funds.
The equipment, which includes ICU beds, patient monitors and ECG machines, is expected to enhance the delivery of specialist clinical services and improve patient outcomes.
In addition to new acquisitions, the hospital undertook major maintenance works on key diagnostic equipment, including the repair and reactivation of two 132-slice CT scan machines that had been out of service, restoring vital imaging capabilities.
The CEO also announced the completion of the renovation of the hospital’s main dialysis centre, increasing the number of dialysis facilities at the hospital to three, alongside existing units at the paediatric and emergency departments.
Dr. Baidoo further highlighted ongoing and upcoming infrastructure projects, including the construction of a state-of-the-art cardiac catheterisation and interventional centre under the Ghana Medical Trust Fund. The facility, expected to be completed later this year, will significantly improve advanced cardiac care and reduce referrals.
Other priority projects include the completion of an Assisted Reproductive Technology Centre and a 192-bed patients’ relatives hostel, as well as plans for a new oncology centre in partnership with the Jospong Group of Companies.
He added that the hospital is also collaborating with the City Cancer Challenge and Amgen to procure a modern mammogram machine, the first in about 15 years, to strengthen cancer diagnosis and treatment.
The CEO noted that work is also expected to commence on a multipurpose auditorium and visitors’ hostel project sponsored by the Church of Pentecost, while road rehabilitation works are ongoing within the hospital to improve accessibility and safety.
On human resource development, Dr. Baidoo said management approved nearly 90 percent of staff applications for further studies and spent GH¢4.3 million on staff medical care. He added that more than 300 staff members received training in professional communication in collaboration with the University of Media, Arts and Communication.
He explained that these investments contributed to improved patient satisfaction, which rose to over 91 percent in 2025.
Dr. Baidoo emphasized that the investments form part of a broader strategy to reposition the hospital as a leading centre for tertiary healthcare, medical education and research in Africa, as it marks 70 years of service.
