The Kenyasi Prisons in the Asutifi North District of the Ahafo Region has issued a plea for assistance to complete its clinic and equip it with essential medical supplies.

The appeal was made by DSP Bernice Kyei, the officer in charge of health at the facility, during a donation event on Wednesday, March 26. The Kenyasi Deanery of the Goaso Diocese presented a 10,000-liter poly tank to the prison to help address ongoing water storage challenges.

The Kenyasi Deanery, which represents seven communities—Kenyasi, Wamahinso, Ntotroso, Acherensua, Hwidiem, Nkaseim, and Dadiesoaba—made the donation as part of its commitment to supporting the welfare of inmates.

Expressing gratitude, DSP Bernice Kyei acknowledged the impact of the donation on improving water supply within the prison but emphasized that the clinic remains incomplete and lacks adequate medicines. She, therefore, called on individuals, organizations, and institutions to contribute towards finishing the facility and ensuring proper healthcare for inmates.

Speaking on behalf of the Kenyasi Deanery, Fr. Matthew Kumi highlighted the Roman Catholic Church’s duty to visit and support prisons, ensuring that inmates receive necessary care and attention.

Adding his voice to the call for support, Mr. Ernest Amankwah Morgan, Chairman of the Goaso Diocese, urged churches, institutions, and non-governmental organizations (NGOs) to extend their assistance to the Kenyasi Prisons. He stressed that the government alone cannot address all the facility’s needs and that collaborative efforts are crucial to improving conditions for inmates.
