Mr Paul Pogba, a 58-year-old farmer has killed himself by hanging at Atsivuta in the Nogokpo-Atsivuta electoral area of the Ketu South Municipality, Volta Region.
According to sources, Mr Pogba committed suicide after his wife threatened to divorce him.
Mr Jonas Agbagba Alevia, the Assemblymember for the area described the death of Mr Pogba as sad.
According to him, the wife of the deceased Madam Akplaga explained to him that, the deceased husband has been duping her of her monies on several occasions.
The Assemblyman told this reporter that the deceased husband pocketed an amount of Gh₵5,000 which was given to him by his wife to pay debts.
He added that Madam Akplaga gave a lot of money to her deceased husband to be given to her breadmaking customers she owes but later found out those monies were never paid.
He continued that Madam Akplaga after receiving several calls from her creditors got incensed and threatened to divorce her husband since she can no longer trust him. What pained her the most, according to the Assemblyman narration, is that her deceased did not use the money for anything meaningful.
According to Mr Agbagba, the deceased became brokenhearted and shockingly took his own live on Wednesday, May 27 at about 3am while his wife was preparing to go to Denu market.
“He hanged himself on a mango tree just at the back of their house,” he stated.
Mr Jonas Agbagba Alevia noted that the case has since been reported to Agbozume Police for further investigation.
The body has been deposited at Agbozume mortuary pending autopsy.
