The Ghana Police Service has arrested a key suspect in connection with the daylight robbery at a jewellery shop in Adabraka, Accra, following a year-long intelligence-led investigation, as part of a wider nationwide crackdown on violent crime and illegal firearms.
Briefing the media in Accra on Wednesday, December 31, 2025, the Director-General of the Criminal Investigations Department (CID), Commissioner of Police (COP) Lydia Yaako Donkor, said the suspect, Salim Mohammed, also known as Fariwata, was arrested on November 20, 2025, at a hospital in Ashaiman where he had gone to seek medical attention.
The arrest follows investigations into the November 2024 robbery in which GH¢7.5 million from a gold transaction was stolen while being transported to a bank.
Preliminary investigations, COP Donkor said, revealed that Mohammed and his accomplices, armed with AK-47 assault rifles, intercepted the victim’s vehicle, fired shots to disperse onlookers, injured the driver and fled with the cash.
She said police are actively pursuing the remaining suspects and working to recover the stolen money.
