Ghana’s Division One club, King Faisal Football Club, has filed an interlocutory injunction against the upcoming Ghana Football Association (GFA) elections slated for September this year.
The GFA elections, which is conducted every four years to elect leaders, will be held in Tamale in the Northern part of Ghana.
The Kumasi based club is seeking place an injunction because they claim no GFA president can be elected without first electing or appointing new members or representatives of the Executive Committee.
King Faisal, through their attorney, James Kwame Quayson, submitted their claims to the Accra High Court, pleading with the court to prevent the GFA from going ahead with the elections until elections for representatives from the National League Clubs, Regional Football Association, and other constituent bodies have been properly carried out.
Also, the club is seeking a court declaration that initiating the nomination process for the GFA President’s election before conducting elections for the Executive Committee representatives is both incorrect and unlawful.
Already, vetting of applicants, which began on Monday, August 21, 2023, has been completed.
