A total of Nine people have lost have been confirmed dead following a devastating road collision in the early hours of Friday morning at Sronoase, within the Kintampo North Municipality.

The incident, which involved a passenger bus and a heavy goods vehicle, prompted a major rescue operation by the Ghana National Fire Service (GNFS) to save dozens of passengers trapped within the twisted metal of the wreckage.

Emergency services were alerted to the catastrophe at 04:57, with a nine-member specialist crew arriving at the scene shortly thereafter.

Led by Sub Officer Peter Clever, the team discovered a grim scene where a passenger bus, registered GS 2564-20, had collided with a Kia Rhino truck carrying a heavy load of provisions.

Out of the 42 people caught up in the crash, many were pinned inside the vehicles, requiring the urgent use of extrication equipment to pull them to safety.

Firefighters worked tirelessly to free the survivors, successfully rescuing 33 individuals who were immediately rushed to the Kintampo Municipal Hospital for emergency treatment.

Despite the rapid intervention of the rescue teams, seven people were pronounced dead at the roadside. A further two victims succumbed to their injuries after reaching the hospital, bringing the total number of fatalities to nine.

The Ghana Police Service remained on-site throughout the morning to manage the resulting traffic congestion and to take custody of the deceased.

While the wreckage has since been cleared, the exact circumstances leading to the collision are not yet known. Local authorities have confirmed that an investigation into the cause of the crash is currently underway.
