Kofi Ofosu Nkansah formally charged

Former Chief Executive Officer of the National Entrepreneurship and Innovation Programme (NEIP), Kofi Ofosu Nkansah, has been formally charged with publishing false news, his lawyer has confirmed.

His legal counsel, Nana Agyei Baffour Awuah—who also serves as Member of Parliament for Manhyia South—explained that the charge stems from claims that an individual allegedly paid money to obtain a government-sponsored scholarship to study abroad.

According to Mr Awuah, Mr Nkansah was taken into custody on Tuesday and interrogated by officers of the National Investigations Bureau (NIB) before the charge was filed.

“He has been charged but remains in NIB custody, even though he was expected to be granted bail. How can someone charged with publishing false news still be detained?” the lawyer questioned.

Mr Nkansah is expected to appear in court on Thursday, February 12, 2026.

His arrest follows a directive from President John Mahama ordering the NIB to investigate allegations he made concerning irregularities in the awarding of overseas scholarships. Mr Nkansah discussed the claims during a broadcast on Sompa 106.5 FM.

In a statement dated February 3, 2026, and signed by the Secretary to the President, Dr Callistus Mahama, the Presidency noted that the allegations had attracted widespread public attention after the Twi-language interview circulated broadly across media platforms.

Following a search of his residence on Tuesday, Mr Nkansah was invited by the NIB to assist with ongoing investigations.
