President John Dramani Mahama has appointed celebrated media personality, fashion entrepreneur, and cultural ambassador Kofi Okyere Darko (KOD) as the Presidential Advisor on Diaspora Affairs.
The appointment reflects the government’s commitment to fostering stronger ties with Ghanaians abroad, boosting investment opportunities, and enhancing cultural and economic collaborations. With over three decades of experience in the media and fashion industries, KOD is expected to bring a wealth of expertise to his new role.
KOD, widely recognized for his contributions to Ghana’s media and entertainment landscape, has worked with various radio and television networks.
He is also the creative director of Nineteen57 and the founder of the annual fashion and music event, Rhythms on Da Runway.
His career began at an early age—becoming a full-time radio presenter at 18 and venturing into television at 19. Over the years, he has earned several prestigious awards, including Most Stylish Radio Personality of the Year at the Glitz Style Awards and Most Fashionable Man of the Year at the Exclusive Men of the Year (EMY) Awards.
Career in Media and Fashion
Born and raised in Ghana, KOD had his early education in Winneba before attending Nifa Secondary School in Adukrom. He later pursued media studies at the Ghana Institute of Journalism, now known as the University of Media, Arts, and Communication (UniMAC).
His professional journey began as a production assistant for a Ghana Broadcasting Corporation (GBC) television show. He later joined Radio Gold before moving to England, where he worked with leading fashion brands such as Ted Baker and Paul Smith. Upon his return to Ghana, he re-established himself in the media industry, holding various roles, including presenter, events manager, and marketing manager at the EIB Network’s LIVE FM. He also hosted Starr Drive on Starr FM in Accra.
KOD’s extensive experience and global network are expected to play a pivotal role in advancing the government’s efforts to engage the Ghanaian diaspora and promote cultural diplomacy.
