The Koforidua High Court has approved bail for former New Patriotic Party (NPP) National Chairman Freddie Blay in the amount of GH₵800,000, with two sureties required, both of whom must reside in Accra and hold valid Ghana Cards.

Mr Blay was reportedly hospitalised under emergency conditions following an increase in his blood pressure while in police custody, shortly after his remand by the Akropong Circuit Court.

His remand was in connection with an alleged demolition dispute at Kitase.

He is scheduled to reappear before the circuit court on April 9, 2026, as investigations continue.

His arrest followed the execution of a bench warrant in Accra on Monday, March 16, 2026, which was issued in April 2025, allegedly due to his failure to honour multiple invitations for investigation and not appearing for his scheduled arraignment.

The case is in connection with a parcel of land at Kitase acquired by Mr Blay in 1994, with prosecutors accusing him of ordering the demolition of a house under construction on the disputed land.

However, Mr Blay’s defence team disputes the allegations, maintaining that he instructed the clearing of a bare piece of land in January 2026 to prevent it from becoming a habitat for dangerous reptiles, not the demolition of any structure.

They argue that the matter is civil, not criminal, and note that the complainant’s previous favourable ruling at the Koforidua High Court is currently under appeal, with attempts to serve the complainant with court processes related to the appeal being unsuccessful.
