The Acting Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of Korle Bu Teaching Hospital, Dr. Frank Owusu-Sekyere, paid a courtesy call on the Member of Parliament (MP)-elect for the Ablekuma South Constituency, Dr. Alfred Okoe Vanderpuije, at his office.
Accompanied by a high-level delegation from the hospital, the visit aimed to congratulate the MP-elect on retaining his seat, express appreciation for his contributions to Korle Bu’s success, and explore opportunities for collaboration to enhance the hospital’s operations.
Dr. Owusu-Sekyere acknowledged Dr. Vanderpuije’s pivotal role as a key stakeholder in supporting the hospital’s mission to remain a Centre of Excellence.
“The hospital’s management has recognized the valuable relationship we share with you. Your efforts in advocating for the hospital are commendable,” he stated.
During the meeting, Dr. Vanderpuije expressed his gratitude for the recognition and reaffirmed his readiness to work with the hospital to address its needs. He emphasized the significance of Korle Bu to the community and the nation at large. “This hospital is vital to everyone. It plays an essential role in saving lives, and I am committed to supporting it,” he said.
Addressing challenges faced by the hospital, Dr. Owusu-Sekyere pointed to the legislative constraints regarding the approval of medical fees, noting that Korle Bu, as a teaching hospital, requires special consideration.
“Korle Bu needs to be treated separately when it comes to teaching hospitals. We are constrained by the legislation,” he explained.
In response, Dr. Vanderpuije assured the delegation of his continued advocacy for the hospital. “My doors are always open for suggestions. We will continue to position Korle Bu every day better than it is,” he said.
Dr. Owusu-Sekyere thanked the MP-elect for his commitment and support, emphasizing the importance of sustained engagement to maintain their strong relationship.
The hospital’s Head of Public Relations, Mr. Mustapha Salifu, also expressed gratitude on behalf of the management team, commending Dr. Vanderpuije’s passion and openness to the hospital’s needs.
The delegation accompanying the Acting CEO included senior members of the hospital’s management: the Acting Director of Medical Affairs, Dr. Harry Akoto; the Director of Pharmacy, Dr. Charles Ofei Palm; the Director of Administration, Mr. Munir Alhassan; the Acting Director of Nursing and Midwifery, Mrs. Grace Anyomi; the Acting Director of Finance, Mr. Gideon Gawuga; the Director of General Services, Mr. Frederick Addoyobo; and representatives from the Public Relations team.
