In a significant move to restore Kwahu’s hard-earned recognition as a place of beauty, luxury, and tourism in Ghana, the Kwahu Professionals Network (KPN) has condemned the distasteful comments made by Onua TV’s Godsbrain Smart, popularly known as Captain Smart.
In a circulating video, Captain Smart is seen inciting the general public to reconsider their plans to attend this year’s Kwahu Easter, a festival officially recognized by the Republic of Ghana as a national event.
In the video, the broadcast journalist stated: “Those of you who plan to visit Kwahu for this year’s Easter, think again. I’m telling you, Kwahu Easter this year will not be peaceful. In the last few weeks, there have been gunshots everywhere in Kwahu. People have been shooting sporadically in the area because of chieftaincy disputes. There were gunshots in three towns,” he claimed while holding a pink-and-yellowish book with the inscription “Bogus Informant.”
The Kwahu Professionals Network, in a press release dated Thursday, March 20, and signed by its President, Richard Nyarko Sarpong, strongly condemned the journalist’s remarks, stating that they could create fear and panic among the public.
KPN further argued that the statements were misleading and unfounded.
“KPN has taken notice of remarks made by Onua TV’s Captain Smart, suggesting that there will be disturbances at this year’s Kwahu Easter. These claims are not only unfounded and misleading but also create unnecessary fear and panic among the general public.
“For decades, Kwahu Easter has been a hallmark of unity, cultural celebration, pride, and tourism, attracting thousands of visitors from across Ghana and beyond. This year’s festivities will continue in that tradition, with all necessary safety measures in place.
“The Kwahu Professionals Network takes pride in upholding the integrity and reputation of Kwahu as a welcoming and peaceful destination. We encourage all well-meaning Ghanaians and the international community to partake in the 2025 Easter festivities with confidence.
“We also urge stakeholders, including the media, to share accurate and responsible information and refrain from spreading unverified claims that may cause unwarranted anxiety,” the statement concluded.
Kwahu Easter is a popular annual celebration in the Kwahu South District of Ghana’s Eastern Region, drawing people from all walks of life for a three-day holiday filled with social gatherings, funfair activities, and the renowned Kwahu Paragliding Festival.
This year’s Easter festivities will take place from Friday, April 18, to Monday, April 21. Republic Online has reliably learned that the President of the Republic, H.E. John Dramani Mahama, will be attending this year’s Kwahu Easter.
