Kumasi and surrounding areas observe near-total business closures to honor Asantehemaa Nana Konadu Yiadom III’s final funeral rites.

There has been near-total adherence, 99.99% compliance to the Manhyia Palace directive mandating the closure of schools and businesses during the final burial service of the late Asantehemaa Nana Konadu Yiadom III.

As the final rites conclude at the Manhyia Palace under the authority of Otumfuo Osei Tutu Ababio II, shops across the Kumasi Metropolis remain shuttered in honor of the late queen mother.

This widespread closure extends beyond Kumasi, reaching neighboring municipalities including Tafo, Suame, and Oforikrom, where residents have conscientiously closed their businesses.

The funeral committee for the Asantehemaa clarified on September 17 that certain entities namely banks, restaurants, transport services, and pharmaceutical shops are exempt from the suspension of business activities scheduled for Thursday, September 19.

Nonetheless, all other commercial operations have been urged to comply fully with the directive.

The committee emphasized that regardless of exemptions, all businesses must close by 8 p.m. on Thursday to observe Asante cultural and traditional protocols.

This citywide closure is intended to ensure a solemn and respectful atmosphere for the Manhyia royal family’s final procession from Manhyia Palace to Bantama Baamu, passing through Breman, where the late Asantehemaa Nana Konadu Yiadom III will be laid to rest with her ancestors.
