The Kumasi Traditional Council (KTC) has ordered the leadership of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) to within seven (7) days produce its Ashanti Regional Chairman, Bernard Antwi Boasiako popularly known as chairman Wontumi.

The chiefs and people of Kumasi are demanding the head Chairman Wontumi for comments he made to Otumfuo’s Brempon Nana Kwaku Duah, at the party’s regional office in Kumasi.

Chairman Wontumi is believed to have said that ”I have built my own kingdom; I have my own police and military; and I will speak my mind to Otumfuo if I disagree on an issue with him.”

To address the issue, a delegation led by the general secretary, Justin Frimpong Kodua on Monday January 22, 2024 were summoned together with Chairman Wontumi to the Manhyia Palace over Wontumi’s comments but according to the General Secretary, Chairman Wontumi was unwell hence could not appear before the council.

Justin Frimpong Kodua however pleaded with the Council to give the party two weeks to get Wontumi to honour the invite but his plea was shot down by the council who adjourned sitting to Monday January 29, 2024.

The Chiefs asserted that, Chairman Wontumi must appear before the Council, even if he will come in a wheelchair.

The Council also noted that it has taken note of comments by private legal practitioner Maurice Ampaw against the chiefs during a programme on Wontumi Television and therefore want Chairman Wontumi, Maurice Ampaw, and the management of Wontumi Radio and TV to also appear before the Council next Monday January 29.

Responding to the Bantamahene, Baffour Owusu Amankwatia VI, who presided over the sitting, Justin Kodua mentioned that the party will do well to produce Chairman Wontumi but the party is not responsible for comments made by Lawyer Maurice Ampaw.

“Maurice is responsible for his actions we have no hands in his comments”, Justin Frimpong Kodua stressed.
