The communications director of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), Richard Ahiagbah, has debunked allegations by the deputy general secretary of the National Democratic Congress (NDC) that the NPP is engaged in vote buying in the Kumawu constituency.
As the Kumawu constituency heads to the polls to elect a member of parliament following the death of Philip Bosoah in March, both the NPP and the NDC have been campaigning to win the hearts of constituents to vote for their party.
However, the Deputy general secretary of the NDC, Mustapha Gbande has accused the NPP of vote buying in order to retain the seat in the constituency.
According to Mustapha Gbande, the New Patriotic Party over the course of six years has failed the people of Kumawu hence engaging in all manner of vote-buying scenes to win the hearts of individuals in the constituency.
“If the Kumawu constituency is believed to be the stronghold of the New Patriotic Party, why should the President, his vice and top government officials affiliated to the party be sent to the constituency to campaign for the party”, Gbande questioned.
In an interview on the JoyNews channel, Mustapha Gbande said top members of the party were seen sharing money to voters.
Meanwhile, the communications director of the NPP, Richard Ahiagbah said the party has worked to earn votes in the constituency and will never engage in vote buying.
He added that the NDC is doing everything possible to cause chaos in the by-elections but the NPP will ensure a smooth election.
A total of 34,800 registered voters in Kumawu Constituency are expected to elect a new member of parliament today, May 23, 2023.
Ernest Yaw Anim, is the New Patriotic Party’s candidate and is keen on continuing the party’s legacy in the constituency.
The National Democratic Congress is also represented by Kwasi Amankwa who is also seeking to make history for the party by winning the seat dominated by the NPP.
The other two candidates in the race are independent candidates bearing the same, Kwaku Duah.
