Kwabena Adu-Boahene, former Director-General of the National Signals Bureau (NSB), was re-arrested on Tuesday, May 13, 2025, shortly after securing bail in an ongoing GH¢49 million cyber defense fraud case.

His fresh arrest, linked to a separate investigation involving the Ghana Water Company Limited, was disclosed during proceedings at the High Court in Accra.

Lawyer for the accused, Samuel Atta Akyea, informed the court that his client had been taken into custody again, despite being released on bail following a week-long remand.

The earlier remand was ordered on May 2 after the Attorney General alleged that Adu-Boahene had attempted to interfere with prosecution witnesses.

Deputy Attorney General, Dr. Justice Srem Sai, assured the court that all witness statements had been duly signed, and the prosecution was prepared to proceed. The court has since ordered the Attorney General’s office to file all witness statements and disclosures by May 20, 2025, ahead of a Case Management Conference scheduled for May 26.

Adu-Boahene, his wife Angela Adjei Boateng, a third accused Mildred Donkor, and their company Advantage Solutions Limited, are standing trial for charges including stealing, defrauding by false pretence, and money laundering.

The allegations stem from a purported diversion of $7 million in state funds earmarked for a national cyber defense project. All accused persons have pleaded not guilty.

The Attorney General’s office has committed to presenting the full case against the defendants in the next hearing. Meanwhile, the circumstances surrounding Adu-Boahene’s latest arrest remain under investigation, tied to suspected irregularities involving the Ghana Water Company Limited.
