Residents of Kwahu Asante Krom in the Kwahu South Municipality of the Eastern Region are calling on the Nkawkaw Magistrate Court to impose a 30-year prison sentence on a well-known thief, Koo Emma, also known as “Achimota Robber.”
The suspect, who was recently arrested for stealing foodstuffs, cocoa, and kola, is currently on trial and has been remanded for two weeks pending his next court appearance.
According to locals, Koo Emma has a history of theft in the community, including stealing household appliances, for which he was previously punished by town authorities. However, their disciplinary actions failed to deter him from continuing his criminal activities.
Speaking to the media, several residents expressed their frustration and urged the court to deliver a harsh sentence to ensure peace in the community.
Nana Dankyi Simpeh Kukruantumi IV, Krontihene of Kwahu Asante Krom, emphasised that the suspect has been a menace to society for years and should face severe legal consequences.
Similarly, Hon. Bright Boateng, Assembly Member for the Sukwa Electoral Area, and Hon. Isaac Amoako, Assembly Member for Atuobikrom, have both insisted on a strict prison term for Koo Emma.
They believe a long sentence will serve as a deterrent to other potential criminals and restore peace in the area.
The community now awaits the court’s decision when Koo Emma reappears for trial.
