Health workers at the Presbyterian Hospital in Donkorkrom, Kwawu Afram Plains North District, are threatening to abandon the area if the government fails to act on the increasing spate of armed robberies that continue to endanger their lives.

Clad in red bands, the visibly distressed staff marched through the streets of Donkorkrom to protest what they describe as relentless attacks on their colleagues and families.

In a strongly worded petition to the District Police Commander, District Chief Executive, local MPs, chiefs, and other key stakeholders, the health professionals demanded urgent government intervention.

Dr. Isaac Boateng, the Acting Medical Administrator, whose own family recently suffered at the hands of armed robbers, warned of drastic measures.

“If nothing is done by Friday, I will stop work. The entire staff has given the government a two-week ultimatum. We can’t die here in silence,” he told Adom News.

The General Manager of the hospital, Kwaku Fianko Gyan, painted a grim picture, revealing that armed robbery attacks occur nearly three times a week on the Ekye Amanfrom–Donkorkrom road.

“We are under siege. Lives are at risk daily. Government must act now,” he emphasized.

Residents demand return of Anti-Robbery Task Force

Meanwhile, concerned residents of Kwawu Afram Plains have joined the call for improved security, demanding the immediate redeployment of the Anti-Robbery Task Force to combat the escalating crime wave.

They believe the task force’s presence previously kept the area relatively safe, and its return could help restore calm.

The Acting Coordinating Director of the District Assembly confirmed that consultations were ongoing to consider the task force’s return, stressing the Assembly’s zero tolerance for armed robbery.

Divisional Police Commander, ACP Klomegah Christopher, urged residents to remain calm, assuring them that the situation is being handled.

He disclosed that four suspects have so far been arrested, and called on all stakeholders to collaborate in restoring peace.
