Police in the Eastern North Regional Command have arrested three suspects in connection with an unlawful possession of 3999.1kg at Odumase, a community near Adawso in the Kwahu South Municipality.
The Eastern North Regional Commander, DCOP Isaac Kwadwo Asante told Republic online during a press briefing that, the suspects, identified as Confidence Amenuveve, 21, Michael Akuwaku, 17 and Abraham Adonu, 22, were apprehended on a tip off. The report established that all the three are loading boys.
The suspects were captured through a targeted special operation at Asuboni Odumase. The police said the suspects were transporting the substances from their hideout in Volta Region, where they have chosen to operate on the lake as their exit point through to Kwahu due to the absence of Marine police.
During the search, police intercepted one pump action gun, eighty – five (85) maxi bags of compressed and non – compressed substances in different sizes in total, weighing 3999.1Kg suspected to be Indian hemp and two Yamaha (2) outboard motors and four empty gallons from the suspects at the scene.
Upon Interrogation, the suspects claimed to be waiting for one Felix who is believed to be their ring leader and is currently at large.
All exhibits have been retrieved and retained for further investigation purposes, while the suspects currently remain in police custody assisting probing.
The police said all efforts are underway to track and apprehend other accomplices involved in the operation.
