Kwahu Professionals Network, a civil society organization has launched an all inclusive support program to educate and empower women.

With this being the first and such of a kind in the Kwahu block, the KPN believe that there is the need to empower women and the girl – child to take their education serious to improve their lives.

Speaking in an interview on Republic FM’s Anopa Dawuro on Monday, March 7, a founding member for the KPN, Dr. Mrs. Amaning Dankwa said that the perception that Kwahu’s are known for engaging only in business has changed because women in general are progressing in education and other sectors of the world economy, hence women in Kwahu must not be left behind.

The Senior Lecturer at the Department of Pharmacology at the Faculty of Pharmacy at the Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology {KNUST} believes that, empowering women and setting themselves as examples for the young girl – child will encourage them do more to get to higher heights.

“The reason is that, we believe we have to empower our girls and encourage them to concentrate in their education, because years past, the perception about Kwahus is that, they do business elsewhere, come home and build mansions and then return. Nevertheless, the narrative is changing, women are progressing in education and so we do not want to leave our other women behind. We believe empowering them will encourage them to more to get higher heights,” she stated.

“We don’t want the men to assume we want the women to overpower them. No. Aggrey once said, if you educate a woman, you educate a whole nation. If the woman is educated, lot of things changes in the home. She supports financially and the keeping of the home becomes less worrying”, she added.

Under the theme, “Break the Bias today for a sustainable tomorrow, the main sensitization for the women will take place tomorrow, March 8, which is classified as International Women’s Day.

The initiative will draw well-meaning and educated women in Kwahu across the world to influence positively on the girl – child and women in Kwahu.
