The Municipal Chief Executive for Kwahu West, has officially cut sod for the construction of a new Central Market in Nkawkaw, a move set to transform trading and commerce in the municipality.

Speaking at the brief ceremony on Tuesday, the MCE noted that the project is part of the Assembly’s broader agenda to modernize market infrastructure, improve sanitation, and create a safer, more organized environment for traders and customers. The new facility will include well-laid-out stalls, paved walkways, drainage systems, Fire post, Daycare center, Police post, washrooms, and a dedicated lorry terminal to ease congestion in the town center.

“The Nkawkaw Central Market has long been the heartbeat of economic activity in Kwahu West. This reconstruction will give our hardworking market women and traders the decent space they deserve while attracting more buyers and investors to our municipality,” the MCE stated.

The project, expected to be completed in phases, is being funded through a public-private partnership with support from the District Assemblies Common Fund. Local contractors have been engaged to ensure job creation for youth in the area.
Traditional leaders and market queen mothers present at the event commended the Assembly for prioritizing the market, which has struggled with overcrowding and poor drainage for years. They pledged to cooperate with the contractor to ensure a smooth execution.
Once completed, the new Nkawkaw Central Market is projected to host over thousands traders and significantly boost local revenue mobilization and trade within the Kwahu enclave.
The MCE noted that, the project will last for eight months as revealed by the Consultant of the market.
The MCE noted that an over seven hundred traders have submitted their names for relocation to a new market to pave way for the project to commence.
Obomeng Hene Odɛefo Nana Effah Opinamang III during his address, commended that Assembly for embarking on such a bold initiative to modernize physical projects in the Municipality. He further charged the contractor to adhere to the lay down protocols, regulations and period for the construction of project.
