Some residents in Apesika, a farming community in the Kwahu West Municipality have called for an urgent attention to address soaring electricity bills and a shortage of ECG meters.
The residents say the rising cost of electricity has effected widespread disconnections by ECG officials due to inability to pay the huge bills.
Residents noted that access to prepaid meters would help them monitor and regulate their power consumption, preventing unexpected high charges. However, a persistent shortage of meters in the municipality has made this impossible.
The residents made the complain following a community engagement with the Municipal Chief Executive (MCE) for Kwahu West, Tamimu Halidu, who met with four communities to discuss their concerns. He assured residents that he would meet with the district manager of ECG, Kingsley Agbesi, to push for immediate measures to resolve the problem.
Residents believe that addressing the meter shortage and improving access to prepaid systems will help them manage their power usage and reduce the burden of high bills.
