A 34-year-old labourer, Kingsford Nii Sackey, has been sentenced by the Circuit Court in Accra, presided over by Her Honour Susana Eduful, to one day in prison and fined 500 penalty units, equivalent to GH¢6,000, for stealing window net frames belonging to a warehouse keeper.
In default of the fine, he will serve three months in prison.
The convict, who pleaded guilty to the charge of stealing, was prosecuted by Chief Inspector Wemegeh. The court heard that the offence took place on September 1, 2025, at Dansoman Keep Fit Down in the Greater Accra Region.
According to the brief facts presented in court, the complainant, Michael Essien, is a warehouse keeper at a construction site where the accused also worked as a chef and labourer. Both men were accommodated at the site.
On the night of the incident, around 2:40 a.m., the complainant returned to the premises and spotted Sackey carrying two polythene bags while attempting to leave. Upon seeing the complainant, Sackey quickly turned back and tried to hide the bags, but suspicion was aroused.
The complainant inspected the bags and discovered 65 pieces of window net frames, each valued at GH¢475, totaling GH¢30,875.
Sackey was arrested and handed over to the Dansoman Police Station along with the exhibits for investigation.
During interrogation, Sackey admitted to stealing only eight pieces of the frames but denied taking all 65 as alleged by the complainant.
Police concluded their investigation and charged him with stealing contrary to Section 124(1) of the Criminal Offences Act, 1960 (Act 29). He was subsequently arraigned and convicted on his own plea.
