The Minister for Lands and Natural Resources and Member of Parliament for Damongo, Mr. Samuel A. Jinapor has touted the Savannah Region as one of the must-see tourist destinations in Ghana.

He said this when he was delivering a statement on the floor of Parliament on the occasion of Ghana’s 65th Independence anniversary celebration.

He said as part of the anniversary celebrations of and acknowledging the heritage month of March, Ghanaians should endeavour to visit the Savanna Region which is known for “its historical and contemporary contribution to the political and socio-economic development of Ghana”.

He said the region, which is host of the Mole National park, a tourist destination with an enormous land size of 45577 square kilometers, is also home to more than 93 mammal species such as Elephants, Buffaloes, Road Antelopes, endangered species such as Leopards, 334 bird species, 33 reptiles, 125 butterfly species and 9 amphibian species.

Aside the Mole National Park, Mr. Jinapor said the Savannah Region is home to numerous tourist sites such as the Ancient Mosque and Mystique Stone at Laribanga in the West Gonja municipality and the Hippopotamus Sanctuary at Ntreso in the Bole District is an ideal tourist attraction to explore.

He added that the Region with all these sites is ready and poised to contribute its quota to the forward march of Ghana.

The Member of Parliament for Damango alluded that as part of the Heritage month, a visit to the Mole National Park and the other wonderful sites in the Savannah Region will help tourists and visitor to reconnect with nature among other numerous benefits.

Siting an example of these benefits he said according to multiple reports, spending a day or two at an Eco-tourist site refreshes the entire being of a person.

Mr. Samuel A. Jinapor further disclosed that the Forestry Commission is investing in Rosewood plantation in Buipe and Bole which when ready for full scale production will contribute significantly to the economic growth of the country.
