Lands Minister tasks Chiefs to resolve all Boundary issues between Volta Region and Togo

The Minister of Lands and Natural Resources, Samuel Abu Jinapor has called on Chiefs in the Volta region to collaborate with the government through the Ghana Boundary Commission to resolve all Boundary issues in the region with neighboring Togo.

The Minister of Lands and Natural Resources, Samuel Abu Jinapor has called on Chiefs in the Volta region to collaborate with the government through the Ghana Boundary Commission to resolve all Boundary issues in the region with neighboring Togo.

A meeting with the Volta Regional House of Chiefs at the start of his tour of the Volta and Oti Regions, Mr Jinapor said he has charged the Commissioner of the Ghana Boundary Commission to meet with the Steering Committee of the Volta Regional House of Chiefs on how best to resolve such Boundary issues.

Mr. Jinapor said the government is committed to spending to investigate Gold discovery in the Volta region. He said the traditional notion that Gold is found in some parts of Ghana has changed with the discovery of Gold commercially in the Upper Eastern Region.

He said the government is committed to spending on recognizance, exploration and prospecting to see if Gold can be found in commercial quantities in the region.

The Lands and Natural Resources Minister said the issue of sand Mining and deforestation is one major issue that the government is seeking collaboration with the Chiefs to help bring under control.

President of the Volta Regional House of Chiefs, Togbe Tepra Hodo appealed to the Minister to help deal with Sand mining, which recently caused devastation in some parts of the region.
