The Engineer of Feeder Roads for the Kwahu West and East Municipalities in the Eastern Region has commended the Akufo-Addo led administration for a tremendous work done on roads in the municipalities.
Mr Justice Bortey, the area engineer of the Department of Feeder Roads in an interview with Kwame Koranteng on Anɔpa Dawuro on Republic Fm stated that the Akufo-Addo government has embarked on massive road projects in the areas of these Municipalities and must be commended.
According to him, the department has embarked on many projects since the government took office.
He noted that most of the cocoa roads within the areas of the Kwahu West and East Municipalities have been awarded to contractors.
He also revealed that the Domeabra – Krakor town road within the Nkawkaw Municipality was awarded last year but due to some financial inefficiencies, the contractor appeared this year.
According to him, the department have been able to lay an asphalt of 1.1 kilometres since yesterday out of the 14.7 kilometers.
He indicated that, the project is currently in the prima sail stage whiles they await for the second pre-coated 10 millimeters subside after opening to commuters, then, it will have two weeks to complete with the last stage of the project which will be 14 millimeters.
He stated that, at times, the chief executive orders on which roads should be considered but in the off chance, some roads are awarded from Accra and in most cases, when the chief executive of the Municipality presents roads to be considered for construction, most of it are taken out and other jurisdictions are considered.
He noted that, in most cases the accrued budget cannot absorb all the bills in the contracts.
“In some cases, the budget cannot afford all the awarded contracts if an illustration is taken through the bill or contract; a double 2×2 board coverts of 20km will consume all the financial activities of the various contracts”, he told Kwame Koranteng.
Mr Bortey indicated that, Baanka junction to Kofi Dede, through to Aprahwim to Akwasihu in a 9.9 kilometers is currently ongoing. He noted that, Aprahwim to Aduhema which is about 5.4 kilometers and Kwahu Oda to Jamasi which is also 6.5 kilometers is ongoing.
He revealed that, other roads including Kwahu Nsabaa to Asuboni rails is currently progressing on 7 kilometers.
Touching on the roads in the Kwahu East and its related delay and difficulties, he revealed that, usually, when a contractor is awarded a project, it has two compounded weeks to report on site. He stated that since roads in kwahu East are awarded, the government can only look forward to the contractor to move to site.
Clearing the agitations by some residents living in and around Bepong – Ntomemu stretch, he lamented emphatically that, from his point of discussion, he has no idea as to when the road contractor will moving to site and begin the construction of the road.
According to him, he believes with time, the contractor will appear, stating that the road is strictly not under his authority but that of the regional authority in charge of roads. He indicated that a first warning has been issued to the contractor and that they hope to see the contractor on site soon.
