The Rt. Hon. Speaker Alban Sumana Kingsford Bagbin has urged the media to join hands with the legislature to fight the blatant violation of press freedom by the political class.
He made this comment during a working visit on the Management of Media General, the operators of TV3, Onua TV etc.
According to the Speaker of Parliament, disregard for press freedom continues to reflect on the country’s worrying decline in the annual press freedom index in the country.
He congratulated Management of Media General on their consistent performance in the media space.
He extended a hand of partnership to Media General on how to work together to promote the 30th-anniversary celebration of uninterrupted parliamentary democracy under the fourth republic.
Other issues discussed were the monetization of elections, citizens bureau, the passage of new Standing Order, open committee meetings to the press and the establishment of a Parliamentary Museum.
