President Akufo-Addo has called on all members of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), to uphold the party’s tradition ahead of the 2024 general elections.
According to the President, that is the only way the NPP can achieve their purpose of ‘Breaking the Eight’.
In a statement congratulating the party for the just ended parliamentary primaries, he said the party remains unified as a result of its tradition.
“The time-tested, honoured tradition that has kept the NPP as one indissoluble unit demands that the victor receives unalloyed support of candidates who were not successful at the polls. If we are to Break the Eight, which I know is very possible, then we must stay true to this tradition, unite firmly behind our excellent presidential candidate and formidable parliamentary candidates, and deliver another resounding victory for the party, and, thereby, continue the process of bringing progress and prosperity to every part of our country, an endeavour on which we are already fully embarked.
“I urge all true-blue party members to recollect, at all times, that the Danquah-Dombo-Busia political tradition is the greatest, most enduring and noblest tradition in Ghanaian politics.”
He expressed optimism that the party will be able to win majority of seats in parliament, considering the candidates elected.
“We have elected a good blend of experienced and youthful parliamentary candidates, whom i warmly congratulate, and who, i am confident, will help secure a majority for the NPP in the ninth parliament of the 4th Republic, and help return an NPP Presidential candidate into office on 7th January, 2025,” he stated.
He added, “Let us stay the course, conduct ourselves well before the Ghanaian people, strengthen our organisation, and win the 2024 elections.”
