The Liberal Party of Ghana’s (LPG) flagbearer, Kofi Akpaloo, has rejected the National Democratic Congress’s (NDC) demand for a forensic audit of the 2024 voter register, labelling it a “waste of time” and a “non-starter.”
Akpaloo argued that with only 65 days until the December 7 elections, conducting an audit is unrealistic.
He urged the NDC to abandon its demand, stating it would distract from necessary election preparations.
“The EC cannot audit the register within 60 days, covering 275 constituencies, 40,000 polling stations, and 18 million voters,” Akpaloo said. Defending the Electoral Commission (EC), Akpaloo emphasized that the biometric register prevents ghost voting.
“No dead person can vote, so it won’t affect the results.”
Mr Akpaloo commended the EC for their work, stating they are “up to the task.” He discouraged excuses citing human error.
