Head Coach of Spain, Luis Enrique has left his role as the head coach of Spain following a defeat to Morocco in the World Cup.

Despite Enrique’s side dominating possession throughout the game against Morocco, it was enough as the match ended 0-0 after 120 minutes.

Spain failed to score any of their penalties, which saw Morocco progress to the next stage of the competition.

A statement released by the Spanish Football Federation (RFEF) indicated that they are grateful to Luis Enrique and his coaching staff.

“The RFEF would like to thank Luis Enrique and his entire coaching staff at the helm of the absolute national team in recent years.

“The sports management of the RFEF has transferred to the president a report in which it is determined that a new project should start for the Spanish Soccer Team, with the aim of continuing with the growth achieved in recent years thanks to the work carried out by Luis Enrique and their collaborators. Both the president, Luis Rubiales, and the sports director, José Francisco Molina, have transmitted the decision to the coach.”

Enrique, who was first appointed Spain coach in 2018, had a contract until the end of the year.
