President John Dramani Mahama has appointed Dr. Paa Kwesi Baidoo, the Ashanti Regional President of the Ghana Medical Association (GMA), as the new Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of Komfo Anokye Teaching Hospital (KATH), Ghana’s second-largest referral facility.
The appointment was made on 30th April 2025 according to letter issued by the executive secretary to the President.
This follow consultations with relevant stakeholders in the health sector. Dr. Baidoo succeeds Prof. Otchere Addai-Mensah the immediate past CEO, and his appointment is expected to bring a renewed focus on clinical excellence, strategic management, and staff welfare at the hospital.
Dr. Baidoo is a highly respected medical practitioner with decades of experience in public healthcare delivery and medical leadership.
He is a consultant physician who has served in various capacities at KATH, including as a senior medical officer and departmental head.
His tenure as the Ashanti Regional President of the GMA has been marked by advocacy for better working conditions for health professionals and improvements in public health policy.
As CEO, Dr. Baidoo is expected to lead reforms aimed at improving patient care, expanding specialist services, and enhancing the hospital’s infrastructure and operational efficiency.
His leadership comes at a time when KATH is undergoing critical transitions to meet the increasing demand for tertiary healthcare in the northern sector of Ghana.
