His Excellency John Dramani Mahama, President of the Republic of Ghana, has appointed Dr. Ransford Anertey Abbey as the Acting Chief Executive Officer of the Ghana Cocoa Board (COCOBOD).
The appointment, announced on January 21, 2025, was made in accordance with Article 195(1) of the Constitution and Section 12(2) of the Ghana Cocoa Board Act, 1984 (P.N.D.C.L 81).
According to the directive, Dr. Abbey will assume the role pending the constitutionally required advice of the COCOBOD Board, given in consultation with the Public Services Commission. The appointment takes effect immediately from January 21, 2025.
A letter signed by Callistus Mahama, Ph.D., Secretary to the President, formally conveyed the news and congratulated Dr. Abbey on his new role.
“I write to formally inform you that His Excellency John Dramani Mahama, President of the Republic of Ghana in accordance with Article 195(1) of the Constitution and Section 12(2) of the Ghana Cocoa Board Act, 1984 (P.N.D.C.L 81) has appointed you as the Acting Chief Executive Officer of the Ghana Cocoa Board pending receipt of the Constitutionally required advice of the Board of Ghana Cocoa Board, in consultation with the Public Services Commission,” the letter said.
Dr Abbey’s appointment follows the resignation of Joseph Boahen Aidoo, who stepped down as CEO earlier this month.
