President John Dramani Mahama has cautioned individuals and groups who claim to be acting on “orders from above” to justify unlawful actions, stressing that no one is above the law.
According to him, the practice of invoking unnamed authorities to intimidate people, seize land, or disrupt livelihoods must stop, as it undermines good governance and social harmony.
Speaking at the commissioning of the SheaPark Resource Hub in Wa in the Upper West Region on January 31, 2026, President Mahama reaffirmed his administration’s commitment to protecting the rights and safety of all citizens, regardless of status or political affiliation.
He noted that the rule of law remains the foundation of Ghana’s democracy and warned against acts carried out under the cover of secrecy or perceived political backing.
President Mahama was reacting to reports of a purported directive to relocate a market in the Wa township, allegedly coming from unnamed higher authorities.
Dismissing such claims, he said some individuals often hide behind vague references to “orders from above” to pursue personal interests, particularly in land-related disputes.
“I hear people say it is coming from above. They keep saying ‘from above, from above,’ but I don’t know who is up there. Someone goes to take another person’s land and says it is from above. There is no ‘above’ anywhere,” he stated.
He therefore urged security agencies, local authorities, and community leaders to ensure that all actions are carried out within the law and without intimidation.
The SheaPark Resource Hub, a flagship government project, is expected to boost industrial activity in the shea sector and enhance value addition, positioning the Upper West Region as a key contributor to Ghana’s agro-industrial transformation agenda.
