The flagbearer of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), John Dramani Mahama, has called on all eligible Ghanaians to get registered in the upcoming limited voter registration exercise to be conducted by the Electoral Commissioner of Ghana.
The Electoral Commission will open the voter register for new voter registration for all Ghanaians who have attained the age of 18 and above, beginning September 12, 2023, and ending October 2, 2023.
Speaking in a Facebook live broadcast on Tuesday, September 6, 2023, Mr. Mahama said the upcoming exercise is an opportunity for eligible citizens to get a voter’s ID.
“I come before you as the flagbearer of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), to advocate for a cause, an upcoming exercise, that goes to the heart of our democracy. The limited voter registration exercise, will give an opportunity to those who have become eligible to vote, to place their names on the voter’s register.
“I’m here to encourage you, wherever you are in Ghana or beyond, that if you don’t have a voter ID card, especially if you have just turned 18, please take advantage of this exercise which starts on September 12, 2023. Start making the necessary arrangements to register and get your voter’s ID card,” he urged.
He added that it is incumbent on all Ghanaians who are 18 years of age and older to register and vote, as it is everyone’s responsibility.
“Registering and acquiring a voter ID card to vote in the December 2024 presidential and parliamentary elections is not just a basic civic duty, it is an obligation. As a people, our starting point to effect real change in our country is to register and vote. You and I have a collective responsibility to use our votes wisely to hold our leaders accountable and demand the change we desperately need. It is the surest way to secure our democracy.”
