Flagbearer of the New Democratic Congress (NDC), John Dramani Mahama, has congratulated the newly sworn-in Member of Parliament for Assin North Constituency, James Gyakye Quayson, after he won the by-election held on Tuesday, June 27, 2023.

This comes after the Assin North MP’s victory in the previous election was declared null, void, and unconstitutional by the Supreme Court on May 17, 2023, preventing him from holding the seat.

Mr. Mahama in his congratulatory message to the MP stated Mr. Quayson is destined to lead the people of Assin North, and that no one could come against him.

“What man attempts to put asunder; the Good Lord tightly holds together. Congratulations, Hon. James Gyakye Quayson, on your swearing-in, yet again, twice within the same parliamentary term, as the Member of Parliament for the Assin North Constituency,” he wrote on Facebook.

Mr. Quyason won the seat for the second time, securing 17,245 votes representing 57.56 percent of the valid votes cast whiles Charles Opoku, who stood on the ticket of the New Patriotic Party, came second with 12,630 votes representing 42.15 percent.

Sefenu Bernice Enyonam of Liberal Party of Ghana (LPG) got 87 votes representing 0.29 percent.
