President John Dramani Mahama has relaunched the National Sanitation Day (NSD), urging all Ghanaians to take responsibility in keeping the country clean and healthy.

The programme was officially launched on Saturday, September 6, at the Institute of Local Government Studies in Madina.

The president announced that the exercise will be observed nationwide on the first Saturday of every month as part of the “Clean Up Ghana” agenda.

Describing the initiative as a national duty, President Mahama said it goes beyond politics, ethnicity, or religion.

“The National Sanitation Day is a call to action—an opportunity for every Ghanaian to unite in keeping our surroundings clean,” he said.

He explained that the exercise is aimed at building a culture of routine cleaning, reducing disease outbreaks through better hygiene, improving the appearance of towns and cities, and promoting tourism.

The president also emphasized that collaboration is key, stressing the need for government institutions, traditional leaders, faith-based groups, schools, businesses, and the public to play their part.

“We are not just cleaning our environment; we are safeguarding the health of our people, protecting the environment, and leaving behind a legacy for future generations,” he added.
