Former President John Dramani Mahama has formally declared his intention to run for President in the 2024 general election on the ticket of the opposition National Democratic Congress (NDC).

Mr. Mahama made the formal announcement when he met with the Minority caucus at his office in Cantonment.

The former President who lost to President Akufo-Addo in the 2016 and 2020 general elections will be seeking his last attempt to become president of the republic.

Mr. Mahama who according to some members of the NDC is a preferred choice to lead the party will face former Finance Minister Dr. Kwabena Duffuor, former Kumasi Mayor Kojo Bonsu.

Prior to the former President’s announcement, the party officially opened nominations for the election of Presidential and Parliamentary Candidates for the 2024 General Elections.

A statement signed by the party’s general secretary, Fifi Fiavi Kwetey indicated that individuals who wish to pick forms for Parliamentary Candidates can purchase forms on the Party’s official website when Presidential Candidates can purchase forms from the Office of the General Secretary at the party’s headquarters in Adabraka.

However, the statement also added that the Functional Executive Committee of the party has put on hold the Parliamentary primaries of some Twenty-three (23) constituencies.
