President John Dramani Mahama has moved swiftly to restore peace in the Sawla-Bole area of the Savannah Region, following renewed tensions between the Gonja and Birifor communities.

The President, who returned from a state visit to Singapore on Thursday, received a full briefing from the National Security Coordinator and the Minister for the Interior on the developments.

While abroad, he had already engaged the Yagbonwura, Jira Bikunuto Jewu Soale I, in a telephone conversation to discuss steps toward ending the conflict and restoring calm.

As part of the peace-building measures, President Mahama has dispatched a high-level government delegation led by the Minister for the Interior, Hon. Muntaka Mohamed-Mubarak, to meet with the Yagbonwura and other traditional and community leaders in the area.

The delegation is tasked with promoting dialogue and working with the Regional Security Council to resolve outstanding disputes peacefully.

Meanwhile, security in the conflict-prone zone has been reinforced with the deployment of additional police and military personnel to help maintain order and protect lives and property.

President Mahama has called on all parties involved to support ongoing initiatives aimed at ending hostilities. He emphasized that peace and law and order must prevail, urging community stakeholders to put dialogue above confrontation.

“The government remains committed to working closely with traditional leaders, security agencies, and the people to ensure that calm is restored and lasting peace is secured in Sawla-Bole,” the President assured.
