President-elect John Dramani Mahama has reaffirmed his commitment to a seamless and collaborative transition process, emphasizing his respect for outgoing President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo and his administration.

Speaking at the inauguration of the National Transition Team at the Accra International Conference Centre, Mahama assured President Akufo-Addo of his full cooperation during the handover period.

“Mr President [Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo], you can count on my respect and cooperation during and even after this transition,” Mahama stated, underscoring his dedication to fostering unity and continuity.

The President-elect also urged the transition team to prioritize national unity and the greater good. “Let the spirit of nationalism prevail,” he said, calling for a collaborative effort to ensure a smooth transfer of power.

The transition process officially commenced with a preliminary meeting on Wednesday, December 11, at the Jubilee House in Accra. This session marked the start of the organized handover of executive authority from the New Patriotic Party (NPP) administration to the National Democratic Congress (NDC).

The National Transition Team, established under the Presidential (Transition) Act, 2012 (Act 845), plays a pivotal role in the handover process. Its responsibilities include briefing the incoming administration on key state matters, providing access to critical government data, and coordinating the formal inauguration of the President-elect.

Outgoing President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo has also announced the members of the government’s side of the Transition Team, emphasizing the importance of ensuring a seamless transfer of power.

The peaceful collaboration between the two leaders highlights Ghana’s enduring commitment to democratic principles. The transition process continues to serve as a hallmark of the country’s political maturity, reflecting the shared resolve of its leaders to prioritize national progress over partisan divides.
