Majority leader tasks committees to work on Referrals

The Majority Leader, Mahama Ayariga has urged all Select Committees to thoroughly study the legislations establishing the various Departments and Agencies in respect of submitting Annual and Performance Reports to Parliament and ensure that the Departments and Agencies report timely to Parliament for the necessary scrutiny to be conducted as part of the oversight responsibility of Parliament.

 

According to him the Business Committee has noted that there are thirty-two (32) outstanding referrals currently before the Committees, stressing that in view of this, the Business Committee is requesting all Chairpersons of the Committees to take note of the backlog of referrals and report to the House.

 

The Majority Leader who also doubles as the

Chairman of the Business Committee said this on the floor of the House when he was presenting the explanatory memorandum on the Business Statement for the sixth week ending Thursday,3rd July, 2025.

He informed the House that, following the statement made by the Member of Parliament for Lawra, Hon. Bede Anwataazumo Ziedeng on Tuesday 17th June 2025, on the passing of seven (7) students who drowned while crossing the Black Volta River, the Chair has directed the Minister for the Interior, Hon. Mohammed Mubarak Muntaka and Minister for Energy and Green Transition Hon. John Abdulai Jinapor to brief the House on the measures being taken to prevent the recurrence of the incident.

 

The Business Committee has, accordingly scheduled the Ministers concerned to brief the House on Wednesday, 2nd July,2025 on the subject matter.
