The Mamprugu Youth Association (MAYA) has expressed its appreciation to the government following its decision to abandon an appeal against the recent ruling of the Appeals Court in Kumasi.
On October 17, 2024, the court struck out an arrest warrant issued against Bawku Naaba, Naa Sheriga Alhaji Seidu Abagre in February 2023, a move MAYA sees as upholding justice.
The Attorney General initially filed an appeal challenging the ruling but later, on October 24, issued a notice of abandonment, a step MAYA welcomed.
In a statement, the association commended the government for stepping back, underscoring its earlier call for the government to avoid intervening in chieftaincy matters, a move they believe would allow a fair resolution through the courts.
MAYA also highlighted the need for the government and security agencies to protect all citizens, regardless of their background, and called for journalists to report with accuracy and objectivity on issues related to Bawku to foster lasting peace.
The association thanked the people of Mamprugu and Ghanaians for their support and emphasized their commitment to pursuing justice lawfully. They warned, however, that while committed to peace, they would act if their patience is tested, aiming to protect their rights within the law.
