The Mamprugu Youth Association (MAYA) has strongly condemned the killing of a military officer in Bawku on March 17, 2025.
The officer was allegedly murdered by armed Kusasi bandits, adding to a series of violent attacks in the area.
In a statement, MAYA expressed deep concern over the escalating violence, pointing out that this was not an isolated incident but part of a troubling pattern of lawlessness.
The group highlighted several recent attacks, including the ambush of a bus on February 10, the killing of three individuals in Gumyoko on February 14, and multiple attacks on Mamprusi residents in the Binduri district.
In total, at least 10 people, including the military officer, have been killed in the past month.
MAYA also referenced previous attacks on security personnel, including the 2022 killing of a policewoman, the 2023 murder of an immigration officer, and several ambushes on military patrols. They warned that such attacks threaten peace and stability in Bawku and called on authorities to take swift action to bring the perpetrators to justice.
The association extended its condolences to the Ghana Armed Forces and the bereaved family of the fallen soldier, emphasizing that the sacrifices of security personnel should not be in vain.
They urged the government to intensify efforts to curb the violence and ensure the safety of both civilians and security personnel in the region.
