Security agencies have intercepted 1,800 rounds of ammunition on a bus with registration number GW 6471-22 at the Binduri barrier.
The discovery, made during a routine check, has raised alarm given the bus was travelling from Kumasi to Bawku, a region grappling with fragile peace and security.
The Mamprugu Youth Association (Bawku Chapter) has expressed grave concern over the incident, calling it a significant threat to public safety.
In a statement, the group commended the security agencies for their vigilance but urged a thorough investigation into the origins and intended use of the ammunition.
“We call on the Ghana Police Service, the Ministry of National Security, and other law enforcement bodies to identify those responsible for this dangerous cargo and bring them to justice,” the association said.
The group also appealed to the government to enhance intelligence and monitoring along major transport routes to prevent similar incidents.
Citizens were urged to remain vigilant and cooperate with security personnel to maintain peace and security in the region.
“We strongly emphasize that anyone found culpable must face the full rigours of the law to serve as a deterrent,” the statement added.
Authorities are yet to release further details on the ongoing investigation. The interception highlights the need for continued efforts to ensure the safety and stability of areas affected by security challenges.
