The Bekwai Circuit Court presided by His Honour Mark Diboro has convicted a 29-year-old businessman to 10 years imprisonment for robbery and causing harm.
The court found Akwasi Nyantekyi, guilty and was convicted to five (5) yearsย and 10 years respectively on each charge to be run concurrently.
The facts of the case narrated by the Prosecutor Detectiveย Chief Inspector Ofori are that the complaint Daniel Acheampong is a mobile phone attendant at Manso Atwere whereas the convict, Akwasi Nyantekyi, alias Pozo is a businessman in the same community.
According to Bryt Fm, on June 3, 2021, about 10:30pm, the complainant returned to his shop to take some money however on his way home he stood under a tree at Manso Atwere Methodist Basic School sending videos from his mobile phone, however, the convict from nowhere accosted and punch him multiple times in the face.
He felt dizzy and went on his knees to the ground. The convict stabbed him with a metal object at the back of his neck and robbed him of his two itel and Infinix hot 10 mobile phones and bolted.
Some two witnesses rushed to the scene to rescue the complainant to Manso Nkwanta health center where he was treated and discharged.
A former complaint was lodged at the Police station.
The convict was arrested by Police on June 4, 2021. A pair of scissors was found on him but said uses it to cut off his nails.
A search in his room however found nothing.
The convict pleaded alibi in his caution statement and mentioned one Kwaku Busy as his witness. A witness statement was obtained from him as well but his narration was inconsistent.
Akwasi Nyantekyi was charged with causing harm and robbery which he pleaded not guilty.
