The Central East Regional Police Command has arrested a 35-year-old man, Benjamin Owusu, for allegedly staging a fake robbery and kidnapping incident at Fijai, a suburb of Millennium City in Gomoa Nyanyano, Central Region.
According to a police statement signed by DSP Victor Kofi Dosoo, Head of Public Affairs for the Central East Region, the incident was first reported on 3rd September 2025, around 3:00 a.m., when a complainant informed the Millennium City District Police Command that he had received a text message from the supposed victim, later identified as the suspect, claiming he was under attack at his residence.
Police officers who visited the scene did not find Owusu in the house but discovered bloodstains on the bedroom floor, raising suspicion that he might have been harmed. Samples of the stains were collected for forensic analysis.
Investigations later showed that Owusu had abandoned the SIM card used to send the distress message but reactivated it on 5th September to make calls from Elubo in the Western Region.
Subsequent forensic analysis by the Police Crime Lab confirmed that the blood samples were not human.
A dedicated investigative team pursued further intelligence, which led to Owusu’s arrest at his hideout in Akatamanso, Ashanti Region, on 24th September 2025.
Upon interrogation, he confessed that he had slaughtered a duck and used its blood to fake the scene of an attack.
He allegedly staged the incident because he could not account for money belonging to his employer.
DSP Dosoo stated that the suspect will be arraigned before court once investigations are completed.
He further commended stakeholders who assisted in the arrest and cautioned the public against such acts, warning that offenders will face the full rigours of the law.
