The Suhum Circuit Court has remanded a man, believed to be in his late thirties, into Police custody for alleged impersonation and fraud.

The man, Emmanuel Kwaku Oheneba, is standing trial for impersonating an official of the National Identification Authority and issuing fake Ghana Cards to unsuspecting victims at Obretema in the Suhum Municipality of the Eastern Region for a fee.

He is alleged to be charging between thirty cedis and fifty cedis for each fake card issued.

The Assembly Member of Obretema, John Cudjoe, together with about eleven victims reported the incident to the Suhum Municipal NIA office and the case was then forwarded to the Suhum Police for action to be taken.

The Eastern Regional Registration Officer of the NIA, Peter Ntim Ofori urged other victims to report such acts in other districts and municipalities for action to be taken. He added that citizens can seek help from various NIA offices across the region when the need arises.

The Suhum Municipal Registration Officer, Stephen Asukpa Odame disclosed that more than three thousand unclaimed Ghana Cards are currently in his office and urged those who have registered but not received their cards to pass by the Suhum office for them.

He cautioned people to be cautious of fraudsters so they do not fall victim.

Meanwhile, the accused has been remanded to reappear in court on Tuesday, November 1, 2022.

The Police are also on a manhunt for two other accomplices.
