On Friday, May 8, 2026, a man identified as Emmanuel Opoku appeared before the Jacobu District Court on a charge of Threat of Death following his arrest over a viral video that allegedly incited violence against security personnel.
The accused person pleaded guilty simpliciter when he was arraigned before the court, which was presided over by Her Worship Eugenia Adobea. Based on his plea, the court convicted him, however, sentencing was deferred to June 9, 2026.
He was subsequently remanded into prison custody and is expected to reappear on the scheduled date for sentencing.
Emmanuel Opoku’s arrest followed a joint operation by the Inspector-General of Police’s Special Cyber Vetting and Enforcement Team (CVET) and officers at Jacobu in the Ashanti Region.
According to police, the suspect was captured in a viral video wearing a mask and issuing threats against Police and Military personnel.
In the footage, he reportedly warned officers against attempting to arrest armed robbery suspects and further threatened to kill any security personnel who confronted him.
Acting on intelligence, CVET officers traced and arrested him on Thursday, May 7, 2026, at Jacobu in the Amansie Central District.
