An Accra High Court presided over by Her Ladyship Justice Mary Maame Ekue Yanzuh, has sentenced Francis Nabegmado to life imprisonment for the murder of his uncle, Rev. Dr. David Nabegmado, former head pastor of the Central Assemblies of God Church at Tema Community 4.
A seven-member jury at the High Court delivered a unanimous guilty verdict, finding Francis culpable of the brutal killing that occurred on Sunday, December 30, 2018.
The tragic incident unfolded around 9 a.m. as Rev. Dr. Nabegmado prepared to minister during a church service. While moving from his office to the main auditorium, he was attacked and fatally stabbed by his nephew on the church premises.
The pastor was rushed to the Tema General Hospital but was pronounced dead shortly after arrival.
Following the incident, police arrested Francis Nabegmado and retrieved several items, including the murder weapon—a knife—along with a half-consumed bottle of Kasapreko, a container of turpentine disguised in a Voltic bottle, and a box of matches.
During the trial, the prosecution, led by Senior State Attorney Frederick Adu-Gyamfi, presented five witnesses to build its case. The defense, however, produced only one witness. Francis maintained his innocence, claiming he had no role in the killing and suggesting that a spiritual force was responsible.
In a final plea before sentencing, the convict requested to be transferred to a prison in Yendi to be closer to his family.
Justice Mary Maame Ekue Yanzuh, after the final plead of the convict noted that such a request falls under the jurisdiction of the Ghana Prisons Service.
Reacting to the verdict, Rev. Emmanuel Kwesi Ofori, current Senior Pastor of the Assemblies of God Church in Tema Community 4, expressed satisfaction with the outcome, describing it as a step toward healing and justice.
