Sekyedumase police have detained a 42-year-old man, Solomon Mensah, in connection with a brutal assault on Kwaku Gyasi, a 55-year-old farmer.
The incident occurred on January 11, 2025, at approximately 8:00 AM, when Mensah was brought to the police station by Kwame Atta and Atta Gyimah, both residents of Sekyedumase. The suspect was in possession of a bloodstained cutlass at the time of his arrest.
According to the complainants, they suspected Mensah of attacking their uncle, Kwaku Gyasi, in a violent confrontation. Following the report, officers from the Criminal Investigation Department (CID) and the complainants accompanied Mensah to Sekyedumase’s new cemetery. There, they found Gyasi lying unconscious, dressed in blood-soaked black trousers and a matching T-shirt, with multiple machete wounds covering his body.
The victim was immediately rushed to Sekyedumase Hospital for medical attention. A police medical form was issued for documentation and endorsement of the injuries.
Further investigations led police to the alleged crime scene in Taakoso. Mensah claimed that the altercation stemmed from Gyasi’s alleged theft of maize but could not definitively indicate where the assault occurred. At the scene, investigators discovered a sack, a pair of black slippers belonging to the victim, and dried maize leaves dotted with bloodstains along a path.
Police have retained the bloodstained cutlass and other exhibits for further examination. Mensah remains in custody as investigations continue into the circumstances surrounding the attack.
The Sekyedumase police have urged residents to remain calm and assist with any additional information that could aid their investigation.
