Daniel Agbeko, also known as Abraham Fosu, has been sentenced to 15 years in prison by a High Court in Accra for multiple narcotics-related offenses.
Presided over by Justice Marie-Louise Simmons, the court also fined him 10,000 penalty units, with sentences to run concurrently.
Agbeko was convicted of importing two picture frames from Nigeria to Ghana that were found to contain methamphetamine, a prohibited narcotic.
He was charged under the Narcotics Control Commission Act 2020 (Act 1019) for conspiracy, unlawful importation, attempted exportation, and possession of narcotics without authority.
During the trial, Agbeko admitted the methamphetamine was sent to him by a Nigerian accomplice, John Emeka, and confessed to attempting to ship the drugs to Australia using Aramex International courier services.
Investigations revealed that Agbeko had used a passport under the name “Abraham Fosu” to conceal his identity, though his real name was later confirmed as Daniel Agbeko.
Audio recordings presented in court showed Agbeko using street terms like “ice” and “water” to refer to the drugs, though he claimed these were references to a cold store business his wife planned to open.
The court’s ruling sends a strong message about the gravity of drug trafficking and its consequences.
